Masonry joints from Ptolemaic Period
Masonry joints from Ptolemaic Period

The 100 BC floor slabs shown are located on the rooftop of the Temple of Hathour. Slabs vary in size from 2.5 x 1 mtre x 500mm thick. dovetail wedge joints were cut into the slab into which were inserted wood wedges. Water poured on the wedges would make them expand, thus locking together the slab joints. Today, all that remain is the perfectly aligned joints, a testament to their skill.
